Since coming back from Calgary, I was left with a bit of a void. We were outside SO much that I really felt the benefits of fresh air, activity and sunlight. Only problem with Toronto was that it’s missing the gorgeous mountain backdrop, bright sun, and crisp air. I was determined to find a good alternative here in Toronto but all I saw were 2-3hr drives up to cottage country, traffic congestion to go downtown to walk along the beach/water and residential communities in and around my area. Thankfully, my husband came up with the brilliant idea of a zoo membership!
I didn’t expect a zoo membership to become one of my favourite family purchases this year. 🦒🌿
It actually started with me saying I wanted to spend more time outdoors — more walking, more fresh air, more little adventures — but I didn’t necessarily want to drive an hour to find a trail, deal with parking, or worry about ticks every time I ventured into the woods.
And it was actually Dean who said, “Why don’t we just get a zoo membership?”
Turns out… brilliant idea. 😂
The best part has been the flexibility.
I can pop in for an hour, walk around, see a few animals and leave. No pressure to “get my money’s worth” by spending the whole day there. I’ve already used the mobile access, brought Dean as my guest, brought my mom another time, and may have another visit lined up with my cousin and her kids.
It’s basically become my outdoor walking membership — except with giraffes, gorillas and polar bears. 😂
And another unexpected bonus? The food and drinks are actually pretty reasonably priced compared with other major attractions like Wonderland or the CNE. So grabbing a snack or lunch doesn’t automatically feel like an attraction-sized expense.
Best part of the membership is we opted for the Premium level One named adult and up to 4 children which means I can bring Dean, my mom, my mother in law, friends..etc.
I’m realizing there’s something really nice about having a place nearby that I can visit without making it A Whole Thing.
One hour. Fresh air. A walk. Maybe an animal encounter. Home. Since acquiring the membership, Dean and I have gone 3 times! Twice just the two of us and another time w/the boys! Once the boys’ realized we weren’t doing a whole day production, they started to really enjoy themselves! I’m looking the different adventures we’ll have.
Sometimes that’s exactly the kind of adventure I need. 💚
